Churchill House
Completed 2000

This is a project on the rural fringe of a small country town. The clients had a particular affection and regard for the local brick veneer building tradition, and accordingly the house draws it inspiration from the local area with its palette of vernacular forms and materials. It aims to be a solid example of the suburban vernacular and to explore beauty and decoration within a similar spirit of domestic restraint.

The building layout is designed to act as a windbreak to protect the north facing courtyard from the prevailing southwesterly winds, allowing a strong connection between inside and outside all year round. Views to the southwest and west are enjoyed by the living areas, although the private courtyard to the north is the main focus.
